cutáneas en niños To determine if atopic dermatitis is an associated factor for skin infections in children. Material and methods: An analytical, cross-sectional study was carried out in which 109 children who attended the outpatient clinic of the Dermatology service of the Hospital Belén de Trujillo during the period of February - August 2020 and met the selection criteria were interviewed, through spreadsheets. data collection, where the reason for consultation was recorded, the presence or absence of atopic dermatitis by means of diagnostic criteria, the type of skin infection was clinically evaluated if that was the consultation and the clinical history was used to evaluate demographic characteristics between other associated variables. The Chi square and the prevalence ratio statistician were calculated. Results: 109 children were evaluated, of which 55% were women and 65% were aged between 2 months and 5 years. The children who presented atopic dermatitis were 39 (35%) and 52 (47%) skin infections. Of the 39 patients who presented atopic dermatitis, 51% were women, 28 (72%) presented skin infection. Therefore, atopic dermatitis was related to skin infection by an odds ratio of 3.59, 95% CI (1.8 – 7.5), which was significant (p<0.05). Likewise, the frequency of cesarean delivery, non-exclusive breastfeeding and a history of an atopic father or mother was significantly higher in patients with atopic dermatitis (p<0.05). Conclusion: Atopic dermatitis is an associated factor for skin infections in children |
